LAHORE, May 12: The World Cup's Performance Evaluating Committee (PEC) will announce its findings either on Tuesday or Wednesday.

PEC chairman, Ijaz Butt, told Dawn that the committee had completed its findings on Saturday, a copy of which would be handed over to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Dr Nasim Ashraf most likely on Monday.

"After handing over a copy to the PCB chairman, he will be announcing the findings at a press conference either on Tuesday or Wednesday," Ijaz said.

He said the PEC held its last meeting on Saturday to give final shape to the report.

Elaborating at length, he pointed out that the PEC would not hide anything from the public, since the dismal performance of the m in the 2007 World Cup had disappointed them a lot.

He added the findings of the PEC were genuine and if the PCB acted on those such kind of debacle would not be repeated in future.

The PCB formed the PEC on March 31 to probe into the reasons of Pakistan dismal performance in the World Cup.

Salahuddin Ahmed, who later was appointed as PCB's chief selector and Saleem Altaf were two members of the committee. The committee was to announce its recommendations in 30 days.

Ijaz, stated that the committee held its first meeting on April 4 and it should have completed the report by May 5. He said although some delay was inevitable due to various reasons, the committee did its best to finalise a comprehensive report, which would help the PCB avoid mistakes in future and to prepare an effective strategy for the major international competitions.

During this period the PEC held sessions in Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad and interviewed h almost 22 former and current Test cricketers.

Almost all members of the World Cup squad appeared before the PEC to record their statements.

Former Test cricketers, Mohammad Ilyas, Shafqat Rana, Sadiq Mohammad and Rashid Latif also recorded the statement.

Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif, who missed the World Cup, under the mysterious circumstances also appeared before the committee.

While former PCB chairman Lt. Gen. (retd.) Tauqir Zia appeared before the committee, another former head Shaharyar M Khan preferred to send his views in writing.
