ATTOCK, May 12: Lawyers on Saturday once again staged a demonstration at Fawara Chowk and observed partial strike in continuation of their campaign to condemn the president’s decision of suspending Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry.
Speaking on the occasion, the lawyers, including District Bar Association (DBA) Attock President Rana Afsar Ali Khan, said they would continue their protest till the reinstatement of the suspended CJP.
“This is a highly serious issue. If someone does not agree with the government he can be easily accused of misconduct and removed,” they said.
They called upon all political parties and people to stand up against it and draw up a common strategy to face the situation.
They condemned the firing at the residence of CJP’s counsel, Munir A. Malik, petrol bomb attack on the building of the district bar Sahiwal and trespassing on the house of former DBA Karachi president, Akhtar Hussian advocate.
They claimed that all incidents were pre-planned and were aimed at threatening other lawyers.
Earlier, the lawyers staged a protest rally led by DBA Attock President Rana Afsar Ali Khan. They held banners and placards inscribed with anti-government slogans.
After passing through the main Kutchery Chowk and bazaar, the rally ended at Fawara Chowk peacefully. However, the law- enforcement agencies had adopted strict security measures to avoid any untoward incident.
