ISLAMABAD, May 8: The government has decided to launch an aggressive media policy under which different ministries have been asked to hold weekly briefings to give maximum coverage to the its policies, sources said on Tuesday.

Under the decision, the interior and finance ministries and the Planning Commission have begun weekly briefings and a few other ministries will do so in a few days.

The sources said the decision to hold weekly briefings was taken by Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz in a recent cabinet meeting and conveyed to the ministries.

The main objective of the briefings was to counter criticism on the government in the media and give maximum coverage to its policies and development projects, they said.

Interior ministry spokesman Brig Javed Iqbal Cheema and the Planning Commission’s Asif Sheikh conduct the briefings on Tuesdays.
