QUETTA, May 1: The trade union organisations observed the International Labour Day on Tuesday and paid homage to the Chicago martyrs, who sacrificed their lives in 1886 for the rights of the working class, and demanded fair wages for workers.
Members of trade union federations held rallies and vowed to continue their struggle against feudal and capitalist systems to protect the rights of workers, peasants and low-paid employees.
Hundreds of members of trade union organisations took out processions which marched through various roads of the city.
They were holding red flags and banners and chanted slogans against anti-labour laws, Industrial Relations Ordinance-2002, unemployment, privatisation of state-owned enterprises, price hike, lay-offs, low wages and legislation against the interests of the working class.
The Pakistan Workers Confederation, National Rickshaw Association and Anjuman-i-Akhbar Faroshan jointly held a public meeting at Meezan Chowk.
