CHAKWAL, April 21: Chairman National Assembly standing committee on Commerce Iqbal Muhammad Ali said on Saturday that MQM would contest next elections from all seats of the National Assembly.
Addressing a press conference here he said the MQM was party of downtrodden and oppressed hence it had received positive response in Punjab. The MNA was here to organise party at district Chakwal level.
He said the MQM was fighting against imperialism and feudalism, and denied that the MQM was patronised by the late General Ziaul Haq.
He claimed that 15000 MQM workers were killed while thousands others sent behind the bar during 1992 army operation, which continued till 1997.
He said that MQM was the party of masses which projected the problems of the common man.
Responding to a question Iqbal Khan said that MQM would support General Pervez Musharraf if he decided to get re-elected for the 2nd term from the present assemblies and there was no bar in the constitution in this regard.
He said the MQM had received good response from Muzaffargarh, Sialkot and some districts of southern Punjab.
MEGA PROJECTS: District Nazim Chakwal Sardar Ghulam Abbass said that some mega projects for Chakwal city would soon be launched and after its completion Chakwal would become a model city of Punjab province.
He was addressing a big public gathering at Mohallah Sargojra Chakwal after laying foundation stone of Government Girls Primary School 3, Chakwal.
Tehsil Nazim Chakwal Sardar Aftab Akber and parliamentary secretary Punjab Ch Ijaz Hussain Farhat also spoke on the occasion.
The district nazim said that Rs180 million had been released by the Punjab government for the sewerage system of Chakwal city and Rs100 million had been sanctioned by the Punjab government for family and children park at Municipal Stadium Chakwal.
LAWYERS PROTEST: The lawyers of District Chakwal observed an hour strike while the two lawyers Ch Azad Sarfraz and Malik Ashraf Awan attended the hunger strike camp of district Bar Chakwal.
Earlier a twenty members caravan of lawyers led by member Punjab Bar Council Hassan Raza Pasha and president district Bar Chakwal Haroon Irshad Janjua left for Peshawar to attend the address of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry at Peshawar High Court Bar Association.
