LAHORE, April 15: Five-goal Taimur Mawaz Khan propelled Ittefaq to win Teka Polo Cup, defeating Learning Alliance (LA) 10-6 in the final on Sunday.
The winners led the first chukker 2-1. Raja Samiullah drew first blood scoring a field goal while Sufi Mohammad Aamir made it 2-0, cashing in on a field attempt.
In dying minutes Ahmad Nawaz Tiwana, who scored three, struck first for the losers to reduce the margin.
After a neck and neck fight in the second chukker, LA managed to restore the parity 3-3. First, Taimur banged home with his first goal to put Ittefaq 3-1 ahead. But Naveed M Sheikh and Mustafa Tiwana blasted home to be on even keel.
After an eventful third chukker in which five goals were added by either side, the winners came out with a slim 6-5 lead. Taimur struck two more while Sufi Mohammad Aamir chipped in with one goal. For LA, Mustafa and Ahmad Nawaz scored their second.
Maintaining the pressure in the fourth chukker, too Ittefaq earned four more goals as the depleted LA could add only one goal.
Taimur fired home two more to complete his tally. Raja Samiullah and Sufi Mohammad Aamir added one each. For the losers the solitary goal of the chukker came through Ahmad Nawaz.
Earlier, 10-goal Hissam Ali Hyder steered MCB to a convincing 11- 3 1/2 win against BLU Mediaworks.Net to claim third spot. Shah Shamyl Alam added the remaining one goal for the winners. The losers, who had 1 1/2 goal handicap scored two through Sameer Habib Oberoi and Bilal Haye.
