KARACHI, April 14: A series of programmes will be held in 22 cities to mark the centenary celebrations of Hamdard Pakistan. The programmes will be launched simultaneously in India and Bangladesh. This was announced yesterday by President Hamdard Foundation Sadia Rashid.

Ms Sadia Rashid said Hamdard Pakistan had come a long way since its inception in 1906 in Delhi. Hamdard Foundation, she said, was not business concern, but a movement to enlighten the masses. The institutions set up by Hamdard Pakistan were contributing to the uplift of society.

Highlighting the significance of herbal medicine in today’s age, she said the subject had gained immense importance over the years. The popularity of these medicines in Pakistan was due to the work done by the organisation. Hamdard university, she said, was engaged in research to produce medicines affordable by the common man and easily available.

Paying tribute to the services of late Hakim Mohammad Said, Managing Director Hamdard Laboratories Dr Naveedud Zafar said he was an institution. “I spent 23 years in with him and learned a lot. One of his main personality traits was time management. In his lifetime, he examined 5 million patients at his matab. The exercise used to begin after Fajr prayers,” he recalled. — A Reporter
