KARACHI, April 6: Pacific Oceania stormed back to square the Davis Cup Asia Oceania Zone Group II relegation playoff 1-1 after Pakistan surged ahead at National Tennis Centre, Apia Samoa, Pacific Oceania, according to information reaching here on Friday.

Pakistan No 1 Aqeel Khan gave his country a solid start when he edged past Juan Langton 6-3, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 in the opening singles.

However, the joy of victory was short lived as Aqeel’s younger brother Jalil lost tamely 1-6, 1-6, 1-6 to Michael Leong in the second singles.

Aqeel and Shahzad are drawn to meet Brett Baudinet/West Nott in the doubles.

In the reverse singles, Aqeel faces Michael Leong while Jalil takes on Juan Langton. The winner of this tie will remain in Group II while loser faces relegation in group III in 2008.
