HYDERABAD, March 20: The Sindh Bar Council (SBC) issued show-cause notices to nine lawyers of Hyderabad for attending a government-sponsored lawyers’ convention at the Chief Minister's House and insisting on appearing in courts despite country-wide boycott of courts.
Lawyers in others of the province continued boycott of courts, staged rallies and demonstrations and observed token hunger strikes in protest against the president’s action against the CJP.
The Hyderabad High Court Bar Association (HCBA) President Kazi Abdul Sattar who is also member of SBC said that the notices had been dispatched to the lawyers.
Seven out of nine advocates had been issued notices for attending the chief minister’s convention while two had been served with notices for their insistence on appearing in courts despite boycott call.
The lawyers who have been served notices are Shoaib Shibli, Awais Shibili, Saleem Pathan, Naseer Leghari, Shahzado Saleem Nahiyoon, Syed Kamran, Zafar Vighio, Lutufullah Arain and Razia Khan.
HUNGER STRIKE: Lawyers continued hunger strike outside the judicial complex on Tuesday in support of chief justice.
They paid tribute to the judge of Lahore High Court and six lower courts judges of Sindh who resigned from their posts in protest against the president’s action against the CJP.
JOURNALISTS: The Hyderabad Union of Journalists and press photographers staged a token hunger strike outside the press club on Tuesday in protest against police attack on media offices and lawyers.
NAWABSHAH: Members of DBA boycotted court proceedings and observed a token hunger strike demanding reinstatement of ‘non-functional’ CJP outside the sessions court on Tuesday.
Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar, Rahim Bux Jamali, Ameer Ali Mahessar, Ali Gohar Baloch, Ali Mohammed Zardari, Ayaz Ali Arain, Haroon Pirzada, Ashfaque Nabi Qazi and Shahbaz Dahri sat at the strikers’ camp.
DADU: Activists of Sindh Taraqqi-Pasand Party led by Gulzar Soomro staged a rally on Tuesday against the president’s action against the CJP.
