KARACHI, March 20: The Pakistan People’s Party (Sindh) will hold an ‘All Opposition Conference’ in the city to discuss the prevailing judicial crisis and other political matters, said a leader of the PPP on Tuesday.

Speaking at a press conference at the Karachi Press Club, Secretary-General of the Sindh PPP Nafees Ahmed Siddiqui said that the date and agenda of the conference, which he termed the conference of all democratic forces and not an all parties conference, would be decided in the shortest possible time in consultation with all opposition parties.

However, he said the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal would not be invited as, according to him, the MMA was a part of the government in Balochistan and, therefore, the PPP did not consider it an opposition party.

He said besides opposition parties, human rights bodies, NGOs, lawyers’ associations, journalists’ organisations and representatives of civil society would be invited in the conference.

Flanked by other PPP leaders, including Waqar Mehdi and Rashid Rabbani, Mr Siddiqui said the PPP fully supported the struggle of lawyers and all bar councils and associations for the supremacy of the constitution, independence of the judiciary and the rule of law. He observed that every political force should support the lawyers struggle.

He said PPP Chairperson Benazir Bhutto would meet Nawaz Sharif in London to discuss the current political situation and the judicial crisis. PPP MPA Rafiq Engineer said that the PPP legislators submitted their resignation from their seats to the party leadership to utilise them on an appropriate time.
