ISLAMABAD, March 12: The first meeting of the Pakistan-Afghanistan Jirga Commission on Monday discussed various issues, including that of border mining and fencing and a reported Nato plan of striking inside Pakistan, interior ministry sources said.

The meeting decided to set up a joint information sharing mechanism to combat terrorism.

The two sides agreed to stop the ‘blame game’ and address common problems like cross border movement of terrorists and Afghan refugees’ repatriation.

The meeting stressed the need for making biometrics system on Pakistan-Afghanistan border more effective to stop infiltration of terrorists, the sources said.It was decided that in the first phase of the talks controversial issued would be discussed and tried to be settled at government-levels, and in the second phase tribesmen on both sides of the border would be involved to get their point of view in peace keeping efforts.

The sources said that Pakistan raised the issue of the reported Nato plan of striking inside Pakistan with the Afghan delegation, and warned that the basic purpose of the joint commission could be affected in the wake of such reports.

The Afghan delegation was led by Syed Ahmed Gillani and the Pakistani team was led by Interior Minister Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao. The visiting delegation would call on Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, Foreign Minister Khurshid Kasuri and ruling PML secretary-general Mushahid Hussain on Tuesday.
