LAHORE, March 12: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will check the contract signed between Pakistan medium-pacer, Umar Gul and Gloucestershire County for the forthcoming season in England.
PCB Chief Operating Officer Saleem Altaf, said he would have a meeting with the county head during his visit to England from March 17 to 22 to specially get details about the workload the county was to put on Umar Gul during the next season.
Saleem said the step was being taken to avoid injuries to the players. He said in the past Pakistani players had been playing hectic cricket in county's cricket, causing injuries, which enabled them to represent the country in various international matches.
"Umar has recently recovered from a stress fracture and the PCB will be further worried if he has fitness problems during the county cricket and to avoid such problems the PCB has to do all it can ," he said.
Medium-pacer Mohammad Asif had faced elbow injury problems due to county cricket last year.
That forced him to miss first three Tests against England last summer. The trouble is still haunting Asif.
Saleem, pointed out that the PCB would be giving more attention to the fitness of the players and all steps would be taken to keep them fit.
Saleem, said he would also hold meeting with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) officials to settle down the issue between the two cricket boards over the losses the ECB suffered for abandonment of the fourth and fifth day's play at the Oval Test.
"Different kind of proposals have been discussed between the two boards but a final solution is yet to be decided," he said.
Pakistan's captain Inzamam-ul-Haq boycotted the Test from tea session on the fourth day in protest to ground umpire Daryl Hair's decision of imposing five- run penalty on Pakistan, under the charge of ball-tampering. Later the charge could not be proved by Hair before an ICC inquiry, which exonerated Inzamam from the allegation but imposed five-match suspension on him for disreputing the game for staging a boycott. Later, the ECB also sent a claim of Pound Sterling 800,000 as damages to the PCB.
Saleem, said he would also meet the officials of the Surrey county to get Pound Sterling 250,000 for playing a Twenty20 match against England last year to raise funds for the victims of Oct 8's earthquake in the Northern areas of Pakistan.
