Millions looted, two injured

LAHORE, March 12: Robbers struck four times in the city on Monday and looted cash and valuables worth million. Also an alleged robber and a cashier were injured in the crossfire when robbers tried to loot a shop in Gulshan Iqbal.

Nine robbers looted cash and valuables worth hundreds of thousands from the house of a doctor in Johar Town, in Township police’s precinct.

Lahore General Hospital assistant medical superintendent Dr Ziaullah told police that he was standing at his doorstep (34-A-I Johar Town) when three armed people held him at gunpoint, took him inside the house and held hostage his family. In the meantime, their six accomplices also entered the house and started looting valuables. When Dr Tasneem Zia, head of LGH’s gynaecology department head and wife of Dr Zia, put up resistance, intruders thrashed her.

The robbers collected cash, jewellery, prize bonds and other valuables and fled. Police officials were calculating the loss till the filing of the report.

Three armed robbers broke into Raja Shahid’s house in K-11 Block, Wapda Town, in Sattokatla police’s precinct, and looted cash and valuables worth Rs1 million. Police registered a case.

Two armed people intercepted a woman in Gulshan Ravi and snatched Rs50,000 and a cell phone at gunpoint.

Two gun-totting people barged into Qureshi Sons on Ferozepur Road, held the owner Shareef at gunpoint and fled after looting Rs5,000.

An alleged robber and a general store’s cashier were injured in the crossfire during a dacoity bid in the Gulshan Iqbal area here on Monday.

The Gulshan Iqbal SHO said three robbers riding a motorcycle came to a general store in Kamran Block, held owner Ali Husain and cashier Sufyan at gunpoint and demanded cash.

Ali whipped out his pistol and opened fire injuring one of the intruders. The two other dacoits returned the fire. In the shootout, Sufyan, 16, also sustained a leg injury.

The two robbers managed their escape on the bike.

The police reached the spot and removed the injured robber and the cashier to Jinnah Hospital where the condition of the former was stated to be critical.

STOLEN: A car was reportedly stolen from the Faisal Town area and a motorcycle from the Gujjarpura area.
