KARACHI, Feb 25: Gulshan-i-Iqbal police on Sunday arrested six members of a gang and recovered a female university student who was kidnapped for ransom a day ago, said a senior police official.

“We have arrested six members of the kidnapping gang and have recovered the kidnapped girl,” Saqib Ismail, town police officer, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, said.

He said the kidnapped girl was the daughter of a government official and the family had requested to keep her identity secret.

“The gang kidnapped her while she was going to the university from her house in Gulshan-i-Iqbal on Saturday morning,” said the TPO, adding that the family received a ransom call in the evening same day and informed the police about the incident.

“They called the family and demanded for Rs2.5 million,” said the police official.

He said the town police took technical help from the CPLC and traced the whereabouts of the gang to a den in Khuda Ki Basti in Surjani Town.

“We recovered the girl from their captivity and arrested the gang without resistance,” said Mr Ismail. The suspects are identified as Sajid, Jaffer, Amjad, Shaukat, Riaz and Ramzan.

According to the TPO, Sajid was a servant in the same vicinity of Gulshan-i-Iqbal where the girl’s family had their house.

“Sajid had pointed to other members of the gang about the girl’s routine for her kidnapping,” said the TPO.

MINOR GIRL’S BODY: The police in Saddar recovered the headless body of a minor girl from a garbage dump near the bus stop on Dr Daudpota Road.

According to police the girl’s identity had not been established as yet.
