PESHAWAR, Feb 20: In view of the increasing incidents of terrorism in the country, particularly in the NWFP, the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal on Tuesday decided to hold a seminar to promote sectarian harmony and discourage the trend of launching suicide attacks against innocent people.
“We consider President Pervez Musharraf responsible for the situation as his pro-US policies and targeting its own people for the so-called war on terrorism has resulted the suicide attacks in Pakistan,” the provincial spokesman for the alliance, Hakim Waheed, told a news briefing after presiding over a meeting of the MMA’s district chapter.
He said the expressed concern over the deteriorating law and order situation and increasing trend of suicide attacks.
The MMA had decided to hold a seminar for promoting sectarian harmony and chalking out a strategy to deal with the situation in an effective manner, he said.
He said the alliance would invite representatives from all schools of thought to the seminar, for which the date would be announced in a few days.
He said the MMA would not accept a caretaker government formed without consulting it.
The MMA leaders condemned the kidnapping of senior journalist Suhail Qalandar, demanding that the government take effective steps for his recovery and extend all possible help to his family.
The meeting agreed to forward recommendations about potential candidates for the general elections from Peshawar district to the provincial council of the alliance, Mr Waheed said.
He said the MMA provincial council meeting was scheduled for March 1.—PPI
