KARACHI, Feb 17: Frequent power failures continued in various localities across the city on Saturday due to what the power utility claimed to be upgrading of the local power supply distribution network.

A consumer from Qasba Colony said that due to voltage fluctuations his television set went out of order. He said that the low voltage was a major problem in the area.

Another consumer Sultan Hanif from Chandni Chowk, Orangi Town said that on Saturday power supply remained suspended whole day long and again suspended at 11.30pm and restored late in the night.According to a KESC announcement, power supply may be interrupted from 8am to 12noon in Orangi Town’s area ,Haryana Colony, Bismillah Colony Sector 1-L, Qatar Hospital Sector 7-C, Cardio Hospital Sectors 7-E, 7-D, 9-E, Banaras Town Sectors 15-D, 14-E, Disco Mor, Roomi Masjid, Benazir Colony sector 11 , Bank Quarters, Data Chowk, Khalidabad, Islamia Colony, Qasba Colony K area Sectors 1-A, 7-A, 7-F, 15-B, Bangla Bazar Sector 15-A, Fauji Hotel Sector 14-C, Bilal Colony Sector 14-E, Mohammadabad Sectors 14-G, 14-C, 14-D, 11-A, 12-L, Nishan-i-Haider Chowk, Awami Colony, Millat Colony, Madina Colony, Irani Camp, Mohajir Chowk, Zia Pumping Sector 4-E, 4-F, Bijli Nagar Mujahid Colony, Quaid-i-Awan Colony Sectors 5-E, 10-A, German School, Pakistan Bazar, sectors 14-F, 14-H, 14-I, Kali Pahari, Christian Colony, Eidgah, Sindh Government Hospital, Orangi Town Telephone Exchange, Aulia Masjid, Frontier Colony, Aligarh Bazar, Chistia Nagar,Qureshi Market, Azeemabad, Sadiqabad, Govt Girls College Sectors 13-A, 13-B, 13-C, 9-E, 12-C, 12-L, 9-E, 13-G, 13-F, 13-E, 14-E, 14-B, 13-H, 13-C, 5-C, 5-C, 12-C, 12-L, 16-A, 16-B, 6-E, 1-D, 1-C, 1-A, 8-C, Gulfamabad, Gulzar-i-Madina and other areas.

Areas where power supply may be interrupted from 9am to 5pm are Tiger Steel Sub-Station, Small Industries Sub-Station, Naseeruddin Ismail Sub Station, Pak Hand Soap Sub-Station of SITE town.

Down Stream-1,2 and 3, Pak Suzuki-1 and 2 of Pipri West. Baldia Town’s Sectors 9-B,9-E,21Afridi Colony, Ittehad Town, Saeedabad, RCD Highway, Naval Low Cost Housing, Musharraf Colony, Police Training Centre, Murshid Hospital, Moach Goth, Qasim Khani Colony, Nawabad, Suparco Station, Mujahidad, Jan Sahib Road, Dabba Goth, Swat Colony, Awan Chowk, Chandio Chowk and the areas of North Karachi and North Nazimabad.

A KESC spokesman, when contacted said that repair work would continue till end of April. He said that the power utility regretted the inconvenience to the consumers but the work had to be carried out in order to prevent multiple breakdowns during summer due to overloading of the local area distribution network.
