KARACHI, Feb 20: Riding boy Kashif Ali and jockey Shahid Rasheed, stole the riding honours at the Winter Gymkhana Meeting held Wednesday.
Kashif rode the bay filly Smiling Senorita to her maiden success in the third event and followed it up with two more smashing victories astride Ever Shine in the very next race and Hamza Saheb in the fifth, to complete a memorable hat trick.
Shahid on the other end was equally impressive in piloting home Shab-e-Noor to a thrilling victory in the sixth event and grabbing his double through Mohammad Rafiq Siddiqui’s bay mare Bella in the concluding event.
In the sixth race, Al Zarrar partnered by former champion rider M. Rehan set a scorching pace and led the field by 12 lengths approaching the turn. But Shahid astride the winner Shab-e-Noor never panicked. He allowed his bay filly to settle down in the straight and began gaining ground as Al Zarrar began to tire while turning for home.
With M. Rehan trying his level best to keep his mount on course, Shab-e-Noor caught up with the front runner just 50 yards from the winning post and won the race by just 3/4 of a length.
Also in the limelight were owner-trainer Iftikhar Ali who ended the afternoon’s racing programme with a fine treble and M. Tufail, who scored a fine double.
M. Tufail had his moments of glory when he saddled home Lucky Love and Bach Fly, winners in the first and second events, while Iftikhar Ali pinched his amazing treble through Smiling Senorita, Aziz Love and Hamza Sahib.
The next race meeting is scheduled for Monday, Feb 25.
