KARACHI, Feb 11: A mock bomb placed at a busy place in Liaquatabad Town created panic among people on Sunday.

A police party of Liaquatabad Town reached outside a paan shop near Firdous Shopping Centre in Liaquatabad after someone informed them about two handmade bombs placed there.

The police saw two large perfume tins placed outside the paan shop and a mobile phone nearby connected with a thin wire. They called the bomb disposal squad experts who checked them meticulously and announced later that those were the mock bombs with apparent intention to create scare among people.

Liaquatabad TPO Latif Siddiqui told Dawn that the bomb disposal squad staff found no explosive at all from the suspected material. “Initially, they checked the tins from outside and then cut them apart to find nothing but sand, flour and glue inside,” said Mr Siddiqui.

He further said that the mobile phone had no battery, no SIM and no detonator. “We think whosoever is behind this activity has clear intention to create panic among the people,” said Mr Siddiqui.
