GILGIT, Feb 10: The Northern Areas police have given 15 days to vehicle owners for verification of documents and removal of illegal number plates in the area.

A senior official said on Saturday that the administration had issued a warning to vehicle owners in Gilgit to bring documents to authorities concerned for endorsement within two weeks.

He urged the vehicle owners to remove illegal number plates, tinted glasses, flash lights and different insignia on number plates.

He said the action would be taken against suspected vehicles in the district.

He said that an operation would be carried out against illegal vehicles in a few days and a raiding team had already been formed in this regard.

FUNDS ALLOCATED: The government has allocated Rs266.09 million for completion of 33 under-construction water irrigation channels in six districts of the Northern Areas.

Sources in the regional works department said that Rs10 million would be spent on NAs land irrigation project and Rs24 million had been allocated for five irrigation projects in Gilgit district.

They said that Rs30 million had been earmarked in Skardu and Rs71.04 million for seven projects in Diamer district.

They said that Rs4 million had been allocated for three projects in Ghizer district, Rs19.04m for four irrigation projects in Ganche district and Rs10.5 million for three irrigation projects in Astore district. According to sources, of 33 irrigation projects, 14 would be completed in the current fiscal year.
