KARACHI: 12 cars, 24 bikes hijacked

KARACHI, Feb 20: Thirty-six vehicles — 12 cars and 24 motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Wednesday, the police said.

Seven cars were hijacked. Five others were stolen.

Seven motorcycles were hijacked. Seventeen others were stolen.

A policeman’s motorcycle was stolen from the Central Police Office (CPO) on I. I. Chundrigar Road on Tuesday night.

When ASI Yaqoob, posted at the CPO, after completing his duty at 9pm came to the parking lot, he found his motorcycle (KAK-9812) missing. An FIR has been lodged at Kharadar police station.

The ASI was using the motorcycle on open letter.

The police also claimed on Wednesday to have recovered five stolen cars (PG-9892, ADT-881, ADH-325, L-3206, CA5015) and two motorcycles (DU-7397, KCJ-447).

SHOT DEAD: A young man was shot dead in Al-Falah Society, Malir, on early Wednesday morning.

Nazir shot his relation Abdul Razzak, aged 38, to death in a family dispute.

On Wednesday, Nazir visited Razzak’s residence. They had an argument during which Nazir lost his temper, opened fire on Razzak and fled the scene. Razzak suffered bullet wounds and died on the spot.

The body was sent to Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for post- mortem, the police said.

DIES: A young man died in mysterious circumstances in Gulshan-i-Iqbal on Wednesday.

The police said that an unknown taxi driver brought Bacha Jan, aged 29, to Samdani Hospital in Gulshan-i-Iqbal and disappeared.

The police sent the body to the JPMC for post-mortem where the medicolegal report has been reserved till the receipt of the histopathological and chemical report.

ROBBERIES:Two robberies were committed in the city on Wednesday, the police said.

Jafer Raza lodged an FIR at Malir City police station that five unidentified men looted cash from his home.

Mohammed Sohail lodged an FIR at SITE police station that two unidentified men robbed him of cash.

BEATEN UP: Policemen of Malir police station beat up a cattle trader on Wednesday.

A spokesman for the Cattle Traders Welfare Association, Malir, told Dawn that two policemen of Malir City police station tried to force a cattle trader, Ali Nawaz, to give them money. When he refused to give money, the policemen brutally roughed up the cattle dealer.

Later on, when other cattle traders blocked the road between Murad Memon goth and Malir City, Ali Nawaz was taken away on a police mobile.

DIES OF BURNS: A young man and a young woman died of burns in the city on Wednesday.

A young man, Shahid, aged 30, suffered burns in his home in Korangi on late Tuesday night. The police said that he was brought to Civil Hospital where he died.

A woman who had suffered burns a few days earlier died in Civil Hospital. The police said that Afroz Begum, aged 38, had suffered burns while cooking in her home in Landhi. She was admitted to Civil Hospital.
