KARACHI, Feb 8: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal on Thursday condemned the Sindh government for not protecting the rights of the province and even accepting the construction of the controversial Kalabagh Dam.

In a statement issued here, the MMA Sindh chief, Asadullah Bhutto, said that now after the announcement by the federal law and parliamentary affairs minister that nobody in the Sindh government including Chief Minister Arbab Rahim and the MQM had objected to the construction of Kalabagh Dam it had become clear that they were not interested in protecting the rights of the province.

Mr Bhutto said that the present government had not given anything to Karachiites except dead bodies in bags, extortion, corruption, inflation etc and had miserably failed in protecting the life, honour and properties of the people of Sindh.

The MMA leader said that the chief minister had compromised the rights of the people just to prolong his tenure. He said that on one hand the people living in old villages in the city were not being provided any basic amenities and on the other despite various announcements by the chief minister centuries old villages were being demolished and villagers were being uprooted.

He said that the federal government had also failed and its internal as well as external policies had failed. He said that while waging the so-called war on terrorism, the country had lost its credibility internationally and within the country the government had put the army against its civilian population in various parts including Balochistan and Waziristan. He demanded that the government should stop taking dictates from other countries and formulate its policies according to the aspirations of the people.

Meanwhile, the MMA condemning the Israeli designs to demolish the Masjid-i-Aqsa has demanded that the government should protest strongly.

In a statement issued here, the MMA MNA Mohammad Hussain Mehnati and Laiq Khan said that to give a portion of the Masjid-i-Aqsa to extremists, Israel was planning to demolish the western gate of the mosque.

They urged the Ummah to forge unity and urged the rulers of the Muslim countries, United Nations and other countries to play their part to stop Israel from carrying out its nefarious designs.

They also condemned the ‘enlightened rulers’ who were touring the Middle East to get recognition from the Ummah and were saying that they did not have any animosity towards Israel.
