QUETTA, Feb, 7: About 400 Marri tribesmen and two of their commanders who had been fighting security forces in the Kohlu area surrendered their weapons before officials of the Frontier Corps on Wednesday.
According to an FC official, the rebel commanders, Hazar Khan Lundkani Marri and Mir Hassan Lundkani Marri, who had been running a ‘Farari’ camp in the Nesaho area in Kohlu district, had approached the authorities and expressed willingness to surrender.
The arms were laid down at a ceremony held in Vetakari on the border of Kohlu and Barkhan districts. The commanders pledged to support government’s efforts for restoring peace and the ongoing development projects in Balochistan. They also assured their full cooperation in action being taken against militant tribesmen in Dera Bugti and Kohlu areas.
The weapons and ammunition surrendered by the tribesmen included 51 Kalashnikovs, 27 rifles, three rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) launchers and thousands of rounds of live ammunition, including RPGs.
Meanwhile, in a raid on an alleged hideout of rebel tribesmen in the Siakoh area in Kohlu district, the Frontier Corps personnel seized ammunition including 3 landmines, 4 missiles, 7 rockets, 6 packets of explosives and thousands of live rounds. No arrest was reported.
