KARACHI, Feb 7: A 54-year-old schoolteacher, who was returning home from her school, was knocked down on Thursday by a hit-and-run vehicle on M. A. Jinnah Road.
Her body was shifted to the Civil Hospital, where she was identified as Azra Sultana, daughter of Syed Atta Hussain, resident of A-904/12 in Gulberg. Hospital sources said the woman had received a fatal wound in her head and died from profuse bleeding.
Police said the vehicle hit the woman near Rimpa Plaza. They said one of the bystanders picked up her cellphone and redialled a dialled number from it. The number belonged to the brother of the victim, who along with other relatives reached the hospital and identified her, they said.
The police said the woman was a teacher at a government school near the Radio Pakistan building and she was going home from the school.
Preedy police have registered a case against the unknown driver.
A 30-year-old motorcyclist was killed by a hit-and-run car in Korangi.
The dead was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where he was identified as Mohammed Altaf, son of Mohammed Iqbal, resident of Shah Faisal Colony.
