KARACHI, Feb 4: Two alleged robbers were killed after an exchange of gunfire with police in the Gizri police limits on Sunday, police confirmed.
According to reports, two gunmen in their teens on a motorcycle intercepted Anwer Dawood, a resident of DHA Phase-IV, in front of his house, snatched a cellphone, cash and other valuables from him and escaped.Mr Dawood, according to police officials, chased the robbers in his car during which he was shot at more than once by the armed men but he remained unhurt.
“Mr Dawood reached a police picket outside Imambargah Yasrab and informed the policemen of the incident. Head Constable Irshad of Gizri police station joined him in his car and started chasing the motorcycle,” said a police official.
According to police, at the Aga Khan signal on the main Korangi Road the suspects opened fire at the car but missed the target. HC Irshad returned the fire and wounded the both men seriously.
Meanwhile, a police party arrived at the spot. Both the alleged robbers died on the way to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, said Azad Khan, town police officer of Clifton.
He said the police seized two loaded pistols and three cellphones from the robbers possession.
The motorcycle (KBD 6457) the gunmen were riding on was later found to be snatched in Gulberg in July last.
BOY KILLED: A teenaged boy was shot dead by unknown assailants in the Gulistan-i-Jauhar police limits late Saturday night.
According to police, 15-year-old Kanahiya, son of Jeewan, was returning home after selling vegetables with his pushcart when he was shot by unknown men near Kamran Chowrangi. He died on the spot.
According to police the teenager, an orphan, was the sole bread-earner for the family comprising his mother and a younger brother.
MINOR BOY: The family of a seven-year-old boy, Akbar, found his body in front of their house 24 hours after he went missing in the Moachko police limits.
According to reports, Akbar had gone to run an errand along with his father in Gulshan-i-Ghazi. The father gave him some articles and asked him to go back home, which he could not reach.
The family searched for him the whole night but to no avail. Later in the morning, residents found Akbar’s body lying on an open space near his house. According to police, he had been throttled.
A case has been registered against unknown assailants and further investigations are under way.
PROTEST: Dozens of people along with the family of an under-trial prisoner, Basant Ali Chandio, who died in Landhi Jail on Saturday, staged a sit-in with the coffin box of the body on the Super Highway and accused the police of torturing him to death.
The protestors burnt tyres and pelted the moving vehicles with stones, which caused traffic jams and disrupted the inter-city traffic.
The protesters dispersed after the authorities assured them of a probe into the death, said a family member to the media.
