PESHAWAR, Jan 31: The NWFP government will formulate its own syllabus in accordance with the people’s wishes. The centre has acknowledged the province’s rights in this regard, according to NWFP Minister for Local Government and Rural Development Sardar Mohammad Idrees.

He was addressing various public meetings in remote villages in the Galyat area. The gatherings were also addressed by Sardar Muhammad Yaqub, Sardar Khursheed and Sardar Sheraz Khan.

The minister said the under-development caused by 56 years of neglect could not be removed in four years, but considerable progress had been made, especially in his constituency in the Galyat where people used to face a lot of chronic problems relating to power supply, roads, schools, colleges, health, and sanitation.

Criticising the previous governments, the minister said that even the prime minister, chief minister and a number of provincial ministers, who had been elected from the Galyat, had done nothing for its welfare. However, the present government in the NWFP had completed a lot of development work during the past four years, claimed the minister.

He said the first-ever degree college in the PF-48 constituency had been set up by the MMA government in Nathiagali.

He said that the monthly teaching allowance amounting to Rs1,000 would be performance based and would be given to only those teachers who showing good results, adding that action would be taken against teachers who showed bad results.

He said that MMA government had upheld the policy of merit and it had not discriminated against talented people in any sphere of life, especially in jobs and admissions in educational institutions.

He said that huge sums were being allocated for development in Galyat in health, education, water supply, and other social sectors. He said that a number of development schemes had been completed and others were being completed.—PPI
