PESHAWAR, Jan 31: A police constable succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday, bringing the death toll in the Peshawar suicide blast to 16. Constable Irshad Ali Khan was the 10th policeman to have died in the bombing.

The IGP for NWFP expressed his sympathies with the family of the deceased. He offered Fateha for the departed soul and announced Rs500,000, full salary up to the age of 60, and a 1kanal plot in the Regi Model Town, Peshawar, as compensation.

While praising the supreme sacrifice Irshad Ali offered, the IGP promised to take every step for the welfare of the bereaved family.

Irshad Ali belonged to Asheera Dara, district Upper Dir. He had joined the NWFP Police on May 10, 2006 and was under training.

The NWFP IGP Mohammad Sharif Virk, Additional IGP Headquarter Khurshid Alam Khan, Additional IGP Fiaz Ahmad Khan Toru and others attended his Nimaz-e-Janaza which was offered at the police lines, Peshawar.

Earlier, a small contingent of police presented “Shaheed police Salami”. The IGP took salute from the contingent and laid floral wreath on his coffin.

Later, his coffin was transferred to his native village where he was laid to rest.
