SHEIKHUPURA, Jan 23: A member of chief minister’s monitoring team was shot dead while another sustained serious injuries when two highway robbers opened fire on them near Meeli Burji on Manawala-Safdarabad Road, some 70 kilometres from here, on Tuesday.
Two members of monitoring team, Liaquat and Boota, after participating in a meeting in Nankana, were coming back to their village Meeli Burji in the jurisdiction of Safdarabad police station in Nankana district on an official motorcycle. The robbers, who were also on a motorcycle, signaled them to stop near their village. The robbers opened fire when they did not stop, killing pillion rider Liaquat and injuring Boota. He was admitted to hospital.
In the meanwhile, a Safdarabad mobile team came there. They claimed to have arrested both the robbers, later identified as Imran alias Maani and Umar Daraz alias Umeri.
ROBBERY: In another incident took place on Sangla-Shahkot Road near Chak 40, two gunmen snatched motorcycle, cash and mobile phone from Shafi on Tuesday.
MURDER: Unidentified assailants shot Wazir Gujjar dead on Tuesday in Rana Town in Ferozewala police station limits.
The motive behind the incident could not be ascertained.
