HYDERABAD, Feb 19: Speakers at the 21st death anniversary of prominent writer and journalist Mohammad Usman Deplai have called upon Sindhi Adabi Board (SAB), Sindhi Language Authority (SLA) and other institutions affiliated with Sindh University to ensure the publication of Deplai’s works for the benefit of new generation.

The programme was organized by Bazm-i-Rooh Rehan here the other day.

Mr Ibrahim Joyo deplored that deterioration had set in our different institutions and added that these institutions should work for national uplift instead of becoming fiefs of individuals.

Dr G.A. Allana, said that it was an irony that we were destroying the institutions established by our predecessors.

He lamented that no writer had conducted any research on Deplai except his daughter who had done PhD on his life and works.

He said that the SAB, the SLA, Sindh University and literary organizations should undertake research on stalwarts like Deplai.

Hameed Sindhi said that a particular lobby had been propagating for years against highly respected scholars and writers.

Comrade Jam Saqi highlighted the role of Deplai in creating political consciousness among the people of Sindh.

Imdad Hussaini said that late Deplai was a revolutionary, a rebel and a non-conformist and was an institution in himself.

The others who paid tribute to the late writer included Zareena Baloch, Dr Tahmeena Mufti, Surayya Soz Deplai, Mohammad Ali Deplai and Perwano Bhatti.
