KARACHI, Jan 21: An unbroken century partnership between Khalid Latif and Fawwad Alam earned Karachi Harbour a thoroughly deserved eight-wicket victory over Peshawar in the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy Gold League match at the Arbab Niaz Stadium in Peshawar on Sunday.

Karachi Harbour grabbed all nine points during their first win in three matches. The result was praiseworthy since it was achieved against group leaders. Moreover, the visitors were without their regular skipper Shahid Afridi, who for unspecified reasons didn’t turn up for the match as expected.

Khalid, who led Pakistan to Under-19 World Cup title in 2004 in Bangladesh, and Fawwad, who was part of that squad, put on 155 after Karachi Harbour lost two early wickets in their quest of a target of 172 in 66 overs.

Khalid blasted 87 off 109 balls with 16 boundaries while the left-handed Fawwad hit 11 fours on his way a 79-ball 74 to see their side to victory with 33 overs to spare on the fourth and final day.

Earlier, Uzair-ul-Haq, an upcoming 20-year-old right-arm seamer, grabbed another wicket to finish with five for 53 in Peshawar’s second innings of 249. Uzair, in fact, picked up a match haul of nine. for 90
