KARACHI, Jan 21: City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal has said that city government had vacated the school-building in Firdous Colony under the directives of a court, and held out the assurance that the students of the institution would be adjusted in other schools located in the same locality.

“It would be ensured that all these students are absorbed in the nearby schools without any hassle,” he added.

Mr Kamal was responding to a query during a press conference he was addressing at his secretariat.

Regarding the U-turns near the Ashfaq Memorial Hospital and Mumtaz Manzil on University Road, the nazim said that city government engineers were conducting a study of their utility following which these turnings would be closed.

He said that the development work undertaken in all four industrial zones of the metropolis at an estimated cost of Rs4.5 billion would be completed by the end of this year.

He was of the view that the completion of these projects would bring about an economic revolution in the country as the projects would address the water and sewerage problems over a period of 50-100 years.

“We are paying due attention to such a massive development although we had not made commitments in our election campaign to address all these problems as we had quite a big vote bank,” he pointed out, and added that the grievance of industries were genuine as the industrial areas had been lacking proper sewerage system and adequate water supply despite the fact that they had been contributing 68 per cent of the total national revenues to the country’s exchequer.

The city nazim also pointed out that high-quality pipes, especially imported to ensure durability, were being used in the sewerage network for the industrial areas.

He said a state-of-the-art laboratory was in the final stage of its completion at the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and would become functional in two months.
