MANDI BAHAUDDIN, Jan 20: The district police claimed on Saturday to have killed two dangerous proclaimed offenders and arrested their three accomplices in an encounter near Dera Aza Bashir Ahmed.

A police spokesman said on a tip-off that DPO Waqar Haider had formed a team which intercepted a car (STJ-308) near Dera Aza Bashir Ahmed on Friday night. The motorists opened fire on the police party. During a 35-minute crossfire, POs Yasir Abbass and Akhlaq Ahmed were killed on the spot while Iftikhar alias Taidi managed his escape.

The police arrested their accomplice Jamil Husain Shah from a nearby orchard and found Nasreen Akhtar and Zartash injured in the car. The police recovered a kalashnikov and two 30-bore pistols from the spot. The injured women were admitted to the Mandi DHQ hospital.— Correspondent
