RAWALPINDI, Jan 19: Seven people were killed and two others were injured in different incidents in the twin cities during the last 24 hours, police said. In the first incident, Mubarik Hussain, 43, was shot dead while Azizur Rehman was injured when two of their relatives opened fire on them in Sihala area.

The accused — Abdul Rehman and Ziaur Rehman — came to their uncle Azizur Rehman’s house where Mubarik Hussain was also present.

The two brothers, who had a dispute with Azizur Rehman on catching fish, reportedly opened fire on him. However, Mubarik Hussain was caught in the fire and was seriously injured. He died while being shifted to Pims, whereas Azizur Rehman survived the attack, the police said.

In another incident, a motorcycle rider was killed and his friend injured after they were hit by a dumper in the Secretariat police area.

Hafiz Tanveer and Mohammad Sohail were heading towards Shahzad Town on their motorcycle when they met accident with a dumper. Hafiz Tanveer, who was injured critically, died before reaching the hospital.

Omer Rehman, a resident of Golra, was killed after being run over by a tractor on which he was travelling.

Two persons died of suffocation in their house in Soan (Sihala) on Friday, police and hospital authorities said.

Mohammad Khawar and Zahoor Ahmed went to their beds on Thursday night leaving the gas stove on. The incident came to light when their fellow workers went to their house in the morning and found the door of their room locked. After the door was opened, the two men were found dead and the room was filled with gas.

In another incident, a 50-year-old man and a girl were shot dead by one of their relatives over a marriage dispute in Afshan Colony on Friday.

Police said Haji Mohammad Hussain, 50, and his nephew’s daughter Saima Mumtaz, 17, were present at their home in Afshan Colony when the accused, Zaheer, came there and allegedly opened fire on them, killing them on the spot. Later the accused sped away in his car.

The bodies were shifted to the DHQ hospital for postmortem.
