NAWABSHAH, Jan 16: A meeting to maintain law and order situation during Muharram was held at Darbar hall on Tuesday which was presided over by the district nazim, Ms Faryal Talpur.

A 25-point agenda, including identification of sensitive points, deployment of adequate police force, improper parking, use of loud speakers, establishment of control rooms, removal of wall chalking, repair of damaged roads, provision of electricity, cleaning of roads, medical cover and others were discussed in the meeting.

Speaking on the occasion, Faryal Talpur said that it was the responsibility of district government to ensure law and order and to provide all facilities to citizens during Muharram. She expressed dissatisfaction on the performance of taluka municipal administrations and directed them to speed up their work including removal of chalking and objectionable slogans and garbage from the towns.

SP investigation, Syed Ghayasuddin Rashidi, while briefing the meeting, said that there was no sensitive or trouble point in the district and a programme was already chalked out for maintenance of law and order for which a force of 1600 policemen would be deployed at various points including imambargahs.

The District Coordination Officer, Ahmed Bux Khokhar, said that powers of special magistrate were already given to the revenue officials after an amendment for the maintenance of law and order for complete year and they would ensure it.

He directed all the DDOs and Mukhtiarkars to coordinate with all the departments and ensure repair of roads, cleaning, lighting and all other facilities before commencement of Muharram. He further directed them to carry out a survey and submit a detailed report to him within 24 hours which could be forwarded to the district nazim.

Acting commandant, Indus Rangers Nawabshah, Major Naveed, assured the district administration for provision of Rangers personnel for the maintenance of law and order whenever and wherever required. He also assured provision of medical facilities to mourners during the processions.

It was decided that the DCO office and house would work as complaint centres and control room during the sacred month from Tuesday and people can lodge their complaints regarding non-provision of facilities.

The district nazim, Ms Faryal Talpur, urged the shia community to donate blood for thalassaemia centre established in Nawabshah with the collaboration of district government. EDOs works and services, health, revenue and other officials were also present in the meeting.
