SI injures seven at picket

SHEIKHUPURA, Jan 16: Seven shopkeepers and passersby were injured when a police sub-inspector, reported to be under the influence of alcohol, resorted to firing in the Sharaqpur bus stand area, some 35 km from here, on Tuesday.

SI Sarfraz Bhatti posted in Sharaqpur had set up a picket outside the town.

He chased a car when it did not stop at the picket and intercepted it near the bus stand. After an exchange of hot words with its occupants he opened fire.

Five of the injured were identified as Nafees, Shahid, Shehzad, Mushtaq and Nisar. The Ferozewala DSP has ordered an inquiry.

MURDER: Two people were gunned down when their rivals opened fire on them near a mills on Faisalabad road on Tuesday evening.

Slain Ishaque and Shehbaz had a property dispute with Kashaf Aslam and Mehdi Khan.
