KARACHI: PMDC poll controversy

Published January 17, 2007

KARACHI, Jan 16: Pakistan Association of Private Medical and Dental Institutions said on Tuesday that it rejected the latest elections of office-bearers by Pakistan Medical and Dental Council as, according to it, those were held in contrasts to a Supreme Court decision.

A statement issued by Dr Asim Hussain, the president of the association and chancellor of Ziauddin Medical University, said that the meeting of the PMDC convened on January 15 at Islamabad was originally meant to deliberate on the implementation steps on the orders of Supreme Court of Pakistan but PMDC not only transacted other business but also held elections without calling certain gazetted members.

“The action of PMDC had greatly harmed the cause of medical education in the country. We reject these elections and request the President of Pakistan to order an immediate inquiry into the matter”, Dr Asim adds.
