LAHORE, Jan 15: Jamaat-i-Islami MNA Farid Piracha has taken a strong exception to a statement by President Musharraf on the celebrations of Basant, and said it amounted to contempt of court in a situation when the Supreme Court had imposed a ban on kite flying.

In a press statement on Monday, Mr Piracha requested the apex court to take a notice of the president’s determination to observe Basant which was also an illegal activity after all the provinces had enacted laws to ban the ‘dangerous sport’ which had killed scores of motorcyclists in Lahore and elsewhere in the province. — Correspondent
