Benazir may contest from Thatta: MPA

Published January 16, 2007

THATTA, Jan 15: The Chairperson of the Pakistan People’s Party, Ms Benazir Bhutto, will consider contesting general elections on one of the national assembly seat from Thatta district, besides contesting from her ancestral constituencies in Larkana and Shahdadkot.

This was said by People’s Party Parliamentarians MPA Humera Alwani, while talking to Dawn here on Monday.

She said during her meeting with Ms Bhutto in Dubai on Sunday (yesterday), the chairperson said she would definitely arrive in Pakistan on any date in between October 15 to the end of November this year to lead the election campaign.

Referring to Ms Bhutto's exclusive conversation with her, Ms Alwani said that in case elections were to be held prior to her scheduled return, she would also adjust her return plan accordingly.

Ms Bhutto said 2007 would be the year of massive success of PPP, its activists, supporters, sympathizers and the general populations on the whole who, she believed, were all set to repose confidence by voting the party back into power.

Expressing concern over political victimization of party activists in Thatta, Ms Bhutto said their un-shattered love for the party has convinced her to pay them back in the same coin and that's why she was considering to contest from Thatta also.
