KARACHI, Jan 15: Twenty-two vehicles and 62 cellular phones were taken away in different parts of the city on Monday. Besides, robbers took away cash, valuables and gold ornaments, worth millions of rupees in eight robberies committed during the day.

A Suzuki Cultus was snatched at gunpoint in Gulshah-i-Iqbal while seven cars were stolen within the police precincts of Clifton, Gulberg, , Shahrah-i-Noorjahan, Artillery Maidan, Shareay Faisal and Shah Faisal Colony.

Robbers snatched three motorcycles at gunpoint in the limits of Gulshan-i-Iqbal and Ferozabad. Eleven others were stolen in the limits of Sukkun, Frere, Samanabad, Mubina Town, New Town, Mehmoodabad, Korangi Industrial Area, Nazimabad, Chakiwara, Garden and Preedy police stations.

Of 62 cellular phones, 37 were snatched at gunpoint and 25 others were stolen. At least six cellular phones were snatched at gunpoint in the public buses in different parts of the city.

Robbers took away Rs680,000 and US$175,000 from an office in the Al-Falah Court on the main I.I. Chundrigarh Road.

Owner of the office, Sarfarz Ahmed, told Dawn that the thieves broke open the locks of his office and took away the cash from the safe.

He said he had reported the matter to the Mithadar police who were grilling the watchman, Majid Ali. Police said they had arrested three suspects – Majid, Kamran and Fawad – and all were being interrogated.

Four bandits deprived Murad Jan of cash, jewellery and three cellular phones at gunpoint in Saeedabad.

Two robbers barged into the house of Mohammed Tariq in Sir Syed Town, held the inmates hostage at gunpoint and took away cash, gold ornaments, an ultrasound machine and an ECG machine.

Four bandits barged into the house of Abdus Samad in Gulistan-i-Jauhar, held the inmates hostage at gunpoint, looted cash, jewellery and mobile phone and decamped with the booty.
