PESHAWAR, Jan 12: Teachers from various districts of the NWFP organised a protest march here on Friday and demanded of the government to start disbursing teaching allowance and solve other problems being confronted by the teachers’ community.
The protesting teachers warned that in case of non-acceptance of their demands, they would stage a sit-in before the Parliament House in Islamabad. They said bureaucratic hurdles were causing delay in the disbursement of the allowance.
Other demands of the teachers included reinstatement of PET posts, institution of GP fund for district schools and restoration of son quota for teachers in admissions and appointments.
Teachers of all grades participated in the march arranged by the All Teachers Association (ATA) NWFP.
Earlier, the teachers held a meeting at the Government Higher Secondary School No. 1 in Peshawar to devise their future line of action against the 'delaying tactics’ of the government.
Addressing the meeting, ATA President Haji Shamshad said that teaching allowance was being paid in Punjab and Islamabad.
However, despite repeated promises, the NWFP government had failed to follow suit, he deplored.—PPI
