KARACHI, Dec 30: Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Defence and Additional Secretary-General of the PML Senator Nisar A. Memon on Saturday called upon the youth to prepare themselves to take up future responsibilities.

“You have to take up the reins of the country to steer the nation to the goal of a progressive and prosperous Pakistan, a dream which was conceived by the founder of the nation, Quaid-i-Azam Mohammed Ali Jinnah”.

He was speaking as the chief guest at a ceremony held for the distribution of awards among students winning top three positions in a Radio Pakistan programme of speech contests and quiz competitions.

The programme that spanned over eight episodes -- four of speech contests and four of quiz competitions -- was held in connection with the centenary celebrations of the Muslim League and the award ceremony was organised on a day when the foundation of the Muslim League was laid on December 30, 1906.

Nisar Memon described the day as a most important and of supreme significance for the Muslims of the subcontinent which ultimately led to the creation of an independent Muslim state in which they could breathe in freedom.

The PML additional secretary-general said although the PML was not in power when the constitution of 1973 was framed, its framers did base the document on the principles which were determined by the Quaid-i-Azam.

This day, Nisar Mmemon said, was not only an occasion to have a look at our history, but also to make a pledge by the youth that they would make the Pakistan of today a supreme power of Muslims for tomorrow.—APP
