KARACHI, Dec 30: The Sindh government has put in place strict security measures for the eve of New Year and Eidul Azha. Heavy deployments are being made at all places meant for the Eid prayers.

A traffic plan has also been prepared to ensure a smooth flow of traffic on the New Year night.

Addressing a news conference here on Saturday at the office of the DIG Operations, Adviser to Sindh Chief Minister on Home Affairs Wasim Akhtar said special security arrangements would be made at all mosques, imambargahs, and Eidgahs, where police and rangers would be present to provide security to worshippers.

Besides, police and rangers would patrol all localities across the city and surprise snap-checking would be conducted, he added.

He said all shopping centres and bazaars were already provided with additional security and the police kept an eye on unscrupulous elements.

He said that the police security plan emphasised on coordination with town administrations, NGOs, and community so that it could be applied effectively.

The provincial government has formulated a code of ethics for those who would collect hides and skins of sacrificial animals.

Police would provide security to those vehicles which would transport hides of sacrificial animals to prevent any untoward incident.

He asked welfare organizations collecting hides to cooperate with the police and follow the code of ethics.

He asked the people to ring at 5242877, 5242789 and the toll-free number 0800-71717 to lodge their complaints.

Mr Akhtar said tight security steps would also be taken on the New Year night and no one would be allowed to remove silencers from their motorbikes, or fire guns into the air.

He said stern action would be taken in accordance with the law against violators.

He said the government had imposed Section 144 of the CrPC and motorcyclists found without silencers would be arrested and their motorbikes impounded. Besides, more than two riders on a motorbike would not be allowed.

All those intending to reach Seaview beach would have to go through the Mai Kolachi road.

Movement of heavy vehicles on the Jinnah Bridge would be banned after 10pm on Sunday and they may use alternative routes.

Similarly, the traffic proceeding towards Clifton from the Sindh Club on Abdullah Haroon Road, and from PIDC Chowk on Dr Ziauddin Ahmed Road would be disallowed on Sunday evening.
