LAHORE, Dec 23: The annual elections of the Lahore Race Club (LRC) to elect stewards for the next term will be held during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of its members in the club's conference room on Sunday. LRC chairman Tariq Aziz will preside over the meeting.
The agenda of the AGM has already been distributed among all members, who have arrived in Lahore. Those, who may not be able to attend it, have authorized colleagues to exercise their right to vote on their behalf.
When contacted by Dawn some of the influential members said that since the sitting panel of stewards led by Mr Tariq Aziz has done commendable job for the improvement of standard of the sports and cleansing the racecourse of undesirable elements, they should be elected unopposed for another term in office. Prominent member, breeder and race-horse owner Syed Pervaiz Hussain Shah said that LRC chairman, Mr Tariq Aziz has elevated the status of equine sports and the racing facility at Lahore to international levels.
He now plans to make the club self-reliant for which all members have expressed their full confidence in Mr Aziz's leadership.
Shah praised Mr Aziz's love for horses and his devotion for the uplift of the equine sports, hoping the year 2007 will usher in its development to new heights.
He said two years ago nobody had expected that the Lahore Racecourse would be modernized and night racing introduced although there had been plans for introducing night races much earlier but the credit went to the sitting chairman to materialize it.—AG
