ISLAMABAD, Dec 20: President Pervez Musharraf has instructed the federal interior ministry and the NWFP government to compile a report on the murder of Bannu’s deputy inspector-general (DIG) of police.

According to sources, President Musharraf directed Interior Minister Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao and Governor NWFP Ali Jan Aurakzai to look into the case and forward the report to the President House.

Officials also said the president had directed the authorities concerned to take extraordinary security measures to maintain law and order situation in the province.

It was learnt that after the incident, the security of the law-enforcement personnel had been tightened.

The DIG for Bannu, Abid Ali, was shot dead late on Monday near Peshawar. His driver was also killed in the incident.—Online
