We didn’t turn up for match: Nasser

WELLINGTON, Feb 16: A dejected Nasser Hussain said England were outplayed in all three departments — batting, bowling and fielding — in the 155-run loss to New Zealand in the second One-day International Saturday.

“We didn’t even turn up today,” the England captain said after the match, which was England’s second-lowest One-day International total.

“We can take no pluses out of the game. I was more disappointed to lose the match in Christchurch [by four wickets] because we had a chance there and competed and perhaps should have won, but today was one of those days.

“Days like this will happen, but I firmly believe we have got the players to beat New Zealand and we’ve got to turn around and produce something in Napier to keep the series alive.”

New Zealand skipper Stephen Fleming, who said after the toss he would have put England in had he won it, said he was delighted with every facet of his team’s play.

“The pitch was slow but there weren’t any real demons in it,” Fleming said.

“Our score provided us with the opportunity to attack. We batted well through the middle order. It wasn’t easy, but it only meant you had to concentrate a little harder.”—Reuters
