LARKANA, Nov 19: The provincial and federal departments of archaeology will be approached by the Larkana District Historical Society to take measures to preserve the remains of Moenjodaro and save it from destruction being caused by water logging.

This decision was taken after the visit of board of management of the LDHS to the site on Sunday and a subsequent meeting with local officials of the department there, said Prof Mukhtiar Samoo.

The visiting members are: Prof S.M Yususf, Manzoor Kohyar, Dr Dur Mohammad Pathan and Bachal Tunio.

The BoM also discussed various matters for development of the site with the archaeology officials.

It also decided to hold a meeting on architectural and archaeological heritage of Larkana on January 28, 2007.

The archaeologists and historians from all over the country would be invited to present papers covering different aspects of archaeology.

On that occasion two books on history of Larkana, one each in Sindhi and Urdu, will also be launched, Professor Samoo said.

INDIAN DELEGATION: Sindhi language is flourishing in India as writers, poets and intellectuals continue to express themselves through writing in their mother tongue.

This was stated by Mooti Ram Heeranandani, a poet from Ulhasnagar (India), while speaking at a reception hosted in his honour by the Sindhi Adabi Sangat, Barani Mughiri, branch.

He said that Indus water flows into their veins and congratulated Sindhis for their efforts in making their language richer with uninterrupted contribution in literature and its allied fields.

He said that deviation from creating literature in our mother tongue would have endangered our survival and so the language.

SAS secretary Zulfikar Siyal said that migration had inflicted greatest blow to Sindh and hastened to add that “our ties continue to grow and would be cemented with the passage of time”.

He offered Sindhi language teachers for teaching Sindhi in India, as Sindhi Abadi Sangat firmly believed in protecting the language.

Manzoor Kohyar, Saleem Korai, Vishal, Inayat Memon, Karim Baloch and Khalid Chandio spoke on the occasion.
