KARACHI, Nov 19: City Nazim Mustafa Kamal said on Sunday that the International Defence Exhibition and Seminar (Ideas-2006) would help in presenting a soft image of the city across the world and attract foreign investors.

He said this during a visit to various parts of the city to review overall arrangements being taken by the city government for the mega defence show.

The nazim inspected the renovation work being carried out on Sharea Faisal, Airport, State Guest House, Karsaz Road, University Road, Hassan Square, Sir Shah Salman Road, Aga Khan Road, Dalmia Road and surroundings of the Expo Centre, the venue of the exhibition.

He directed the authorities concerned to establish a stall of the city government at Expo Centre to display details of all the uplift activities and projects for the delegates.

Mr Kamal was of the view that the delegates attending Ideas-2006 would see a different city compared to what they saw previously, as some eight to 10 mega projects had been completed while the situation with regard to cleanliness, water and sewerage infrastructure had also been improved.

He directed the officials concerned to further beautify roads, pavements and routes leading to the Expo Centre and to install streetlights on all the thoroughfares.

The nazim also reviewed preparation of a special cultural show to be held at Peoples’ Stadium Lyari, where some 20,000 people are expected to come. He said that a welcome reception would be given to the visiting delegates at the newly-built Bagh Ibn-i-Qasim.
