Auto makers vow to raise output

ISLAMABAD, Nov 18: Five local auto manufacturers have assured the government to increase their total production of units up to 0.516 million till the year 2011-12 from the current 0.197 million units to meet the growing domestic demand.

The report on future plan of the auto industry — cars/LCVs — a copy of which released by the Engineering Development Board (EDB) to media, suggested that each manufacturer would invest more money to increase its capacity of production, which would result into increasing the employment opportunities.

According to the plan, the Honda Company has projected to increase its production of units to 100,000 till the year 2011-12 from the 30,000 units produced in the year 2005-06.

The investment would be increased to Rs13.5 billion during the year under review as against the current level of investment stood at Rs1.230 billion. The employment in the company would increase to 2,600 people till the year 2011-12 from the current 1,230 persons.

The Suzuki Company has projected to increase its production to 250,000 units till the year 2011-12 from the current 90,000 units.

For expanding the capacity of production, it has also been projected to increase the level of investment to Rs27 billion during the period under review as against Rs8 billion.

With this vast expansion programme, the employment opportunities would increase and the company would provide jobs to around 4,500 people till the year 2011-12 from the current 2,200 people.

The Indus Company would increase its manufacturing capacity to 100,000 units till the year 2011-12 from the current level of 44,000 units. For increasing the capacity of the plant, the company projected to increase the level of investment to Rs14 billion during the year under review as against the current level of investment, which stood at Rs1.15 billion.

The expansion in the manufacturing would ensure more jobs and the level of employment would increase to 3,600 persons during the proposed period as against the current level of 1,750 employees.

The Dewan Company has projected to increase its capacity to 48,000 units till the year 2011-12 from the current 44,000 units. For achieving the expansion in capacity, the company has projected to inject an amount of Rs4.3 billion up to the year 2011-12 from the current level of investment of Rs2.30 billion.

With this increase in production, the company has a plan to increase the jobs to 2,000 people during period under review from the current level of 1,355 jobs.

Finally the Nissan Company has also projected to increase its production to 18,000 units till the year 2011-12 from the current 13,000 units. For expansion in the capacity, they hinted to increase the investment level to Rs1.65 billion during the period under review as against Rs1.15 billion.

The jobs level at the company would increase to 1,200 people till the year 2011-12 from the current 600 employees.
