Policeman killed in encounter

RAWALPINDI, Feb 15: A policeman was killed in an encounter between a proclaimed offender and police party in Kotli Sattian on Friday, police said.

The encounter took place when the police tried to arrest Mohammad Ghufran, who was involved in attempted murder case. During the cross-fire, which continued for an hour, a policeman, Ameer Dad, was killed. However, the proclaimed offender was overpowered by the police.

The deceased left behind five daughters. His Namaz-i-Janaza was offered in the Police Lines Rawalpindi Friday afternoon.

ROBBERY: Four highway robbers looted cash from two persons near Pora Gali (Murree) on Friday, police said.

The robbers, who were in a car, intercepted Mohammad Aftab and Mohammad Younus, and snatched Rs7,000 and Rs 10,000 from them before escaping.

The car in which the culprits were travelling was intercepted by Trait police checkpost, but, the robbers managed to flee from the vehicle. However, the driver of the vehicle was arrested.

VEHICLES STOLEN: Four vehicles were stolen from different areas of Rawalpindi, police said on Friday.

Maj Imtiaz lodged a complaint with the R.A. Bazaar police that his car (LXH-8446) was stolen. Similarly, Abdul Razaq’s jeep (MNG-525) was lifted from Civil Line police area. Anjum Qureshi’s motorcycle (STE-7350) and Tariq Khan’s motorcycle (RIV-5627) were stolen from Ganjmandi.
