GUJRANWALA, Feb 15: Opposition walked out from the Ghakkhar union council meeting on Friday when the treasury group insisted to increase commercial taxes without any justification.
A union council No 1 meeting, held under the chairmanship of Naib Nazim Amjad Bashir, proposed that commercial taxes should be increased 100 per cent to meet council expenditures and completing uplift schemes. But opposition members opposed the move.
They boycotted the meeting when the treasury group insisted to enhance the taxes and later walked out from the meeting. The Naib Nazim adjourned the meeting.
YOUTH DIES: A youth was killed when he fell from the roof of his house in Baberianwala here on Friday.
Imran was flying a kite when he slipped and fell down on the ground. He died while being taken to hospital.
BAIL REJECTED: Police arrested a woman involved in the killing of her husband when the court rejected her bail application here on Friday.
Abida Bibi had killed her husband, Saleem, in Maraliwala village a couple of days ago.
ARREST WARRANTS: The Banking Court No 1, Gujranwala, on Friday issued arrest warrants for five loan defaulters.
These defaulters owe Rs2 million to various bank branches.
The court also issued a show-cause notice to the Wahando SHO for not appearing before the court in connection with some cases and ordered that his one-month salary should be forfeited.
