ISLAMABAD, Nov 2: Minister for Health Nasir Khan on Thursday said 1,960 cases of dengue fever had been reported in the country. He informed the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Health that most of the cases had been reported from Sindh.

He said federal and the Sindh governments were taking emergency measures to overcome the situation.

The meeting, presided over by Dr Hajra Tariq Aziz, was informed that nine new treatment centres had been established in Karachi and other parts of Sindh.

The secretary for the Ministry of Health said there was no shortage of test kits for dengue fever.

The committee directed the ministry to take prompt and effective measures to control the disease.

It also directed the ministry to arrange sprays and negotiate with manufacturers of related medicines such as Mospel for reduction in prices.

It said mobile laboratories and hospitals should be sent to remote areas.

The meeting called for a media campaign to create awareness among people about preventive measures.—APP
